Odessa

Odessa is the Bee Gees’ 1969 double album — their only one of original material — conceived as a concept about a fictional ship lost in 1899. Recording spanned July to November 1968. Vince Melouney left after eight tracks. Robin Gibb departed mid-1969 over the single choice ('First of May' vs. 'Lamplight'). Bill Shepherd added orchestral arrangements and three instrumentals after the band’s final session. Critics later hailed it as their finest 1960s work for its stylistic range: progressive rock, country-inflected songs, and string-laced ballads. It remains a document of fracture — artistic, interpersonal, structural.
