Diana was released in 1980 after Ross approached Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards for a new musical direction. Conversations with her informed much of their songwriting. The finished album also reflects Ross' own intervention: she worked with engineer Russ Terrana on a remix that the producers initially opposed.
