That’s the Way of the World

Earth, Wind & Fire · 1975

That’s the Way of the World is Earth, Wind & Fire’s 1975 studio album, co-produced by Maurice White and Charles Stepney, recorded and mixed over nine months at Hollywood Sound Recorders, and mastered at Kendun Recorders. It began as a commissioned soundtrack for Sig Shore’s film of the same name; the band disliked the film and released the album ahead of its premiere. Musical arrangements were jointly created by the band and Stepney. George Massenburg engineered all eight tracks. The record establishes a model of collaborative authorship—not mythmaking—through documented roles, timelines, and locations.
