This Year's Model is Elvis Costello's second album and his first with the Attractions. Recorded in eleven days at Eden Studios in west London between November 1977 and January 1978, during short breaks from touring. Produced by Nick Lowe, engineered by Roger Béchirian. Most songs were written and performed live earlier in 1977. Lowe prioritised capturing live performances with few overdubs; some of Costello’s guide vocals remained in the final mix. The sessions were energetic and collaborative. Key tracks like 'Pump It Up' and '(I Don't Want to Go to) Chelsea' were completed in a single afternoon. Sonic influences include the Rolling Stones’ Aftermath (1966), the Who, the Kinks, Small Faces, and Talking Heads.
