Bridge Over Troubled Water is Simon & Garfunkel’s final studio album, released in January 1970. It was their first to credit session musicians in the liner notes. It was recorded amid deepening personal and artistic strain, and it marked a deliberate shift away from their earlier folk rock sound.
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme is Simon & Garfunkel’s third studio album, released in October 1966. It marks their first use of eight-track recording, their first full assertion of creative control, and their first active participation in mixing — especially on 'Scarborough Fair'. It is largely acoustic, drawing on Paul Simon’s 1965 English songwriting period and recycling material from The Paul Simon Songbook. Vocal takes were overdubbed to separate voice from guitar. 'Patterns' uses string snaps, syncopated bass, and a frenetic bongo part. 'Scarborough Fair' features fingerpicked guitar, delicate chimes, harpsichord embellishments, and vocal blend.
