Down and Out Blues

Sonny Boy Williamson · 1959

Down and Out Blues is Sonny Boy Williamson’s debut LP, compiling his first six Checker singles — recorded between August 1955 and September 1957 — into a single, unvarnished sequence. It is dry, direct, and documentary in intent: no overdubs, no reverb, no narrative framing. Its power lies in its refusal to soften or explain.
