Chutes Too Narrow
The Shins · 2003
Chutes Too Narrow is a pop record built for listening, not mythmaking. It trades the debut’s lo-fi haze for clean guitar-led arrangements, recorded in a Portland basement under financial constraint and physical risk. Its strength lies in what it leaves out: no filler, no obfuscation, no sonic indulgence. It lands because every decision serves the song — not the scene, not the story, not the brand.
