Tricky

Maxinquaye

Tricky's debut, made after leaving Massive Attack, pairs his low, rapped vocals with Martina Topley-Bird's softer delivery over samples reworked past recognition through dub-influenced production. Recorded largely at his own home studio in 1994, the album explores intimacy, drug culture and the private grief of his mother's death beneath its hazy, downbeat surface.
