King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown

Augustus Pablo, King Tubby · 1976

This 1976 album brings Augustus Pablo's production and instrumental work together with King Tubby's mixing. Musicians recorded at Randy's in Kingston; the tapes then became material for another creative stage. The record belongs to a culture in which a recorded performance could generate further versions rather than settle into one definitive form.

King Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown

Augustus Pablo · 1976

Augustus Pablo cut these tracks with a top-tier Kingston rhythm section, then carried the tapes to King Tubby's studio for mixing that turned rebuilt rhythms into a defining dub statement. Reissued repeatedly since 1976, it remains one of the most consistently reappraised dub records of its decade, anchored by a title track ranked among the greatest recordings in popular music.
