Blank Generation
Richard Hell & the Voidoids · 1977
A 1977 punk LP built across two studios, defined by Fender Stratocasters through Fender Champ amps and deliberate stereo panning. Three tracks retain their March Electric Lady recordings; the rest were re-recorded at Plaza Sound in late June and early July—including 'Walking on the Water', added after its CBGB debut on April 14, 1977. Final mixing began July 13, paused by the 1977 blackout, and finished July 18. The title track predates the band: written in Television, performed live since 1975. The cover image—a bare-chested Hell with open jeans zipper—was shot by Roberta Bayley for the 1976 Ork EP.
