The Weight of These Wings is Miranda Lambert’s sixth studio album, released November 18, 2016, via RCA Records Nashville. It consists of two discs titled The Nerve and The Heart. The album was written and recorded over a year, with contributions from songwriter Luke Dick and producers Frank Liddell, Eric Masse, and Glenn Worf. Its content reflects Lambert's divorce from Blake Shelton and subsequent relationship with Anderson East. The album received widespread critical acclaim and won Album of the Year at the 2017 ACM Awards. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and No. 3 on the Billboard 200, and was certified Platinum by the RIAA in July 2017. Band on the Run is a 1973 Wings album recorded mostly at EMI’s eight-track studio in Lagos, Nigeria, after drummer Denny Seiwell and guitarist Henry McCullough departed shortly before departure. With no time to recruit replacements, Paul and Linda McCartney and Denny Laine made it — McCartney playing bass, drums, percussion and most lead guitar. The studio was ramshackle and under-equipped. Conditions were tense and difficult; the McCartneys were robbed at knifepoint, losing song lyrics and demo tapes. After returning to England, final overdubs and additional recording took place at AIR Studios in London, where orchestral arrangements and saxophone solos were added. The album reflects themes of escape and freedom and features a structure recalling Abbey Road’s side two. It reached number 1 in both the US and UK and restored McCartney’s post-Beatles reputation.

Nick of Time is Bonnie Raitt’s tenth studio album, released March 21, 1989. Produced by Don Was, it features a smooth and understated rock sound rooted in Raitt’s earlier laid-back blues rock style. There is grit in her singing and playing, even when surfaces are clean. The album explores blues rock, country, R&B, and pop. It was built around stripped-down arrangements developed first in demos at Was’ home studio, then recorded live over one week at Ocean Way Recording in Los Angeles. There is less production and less slickness — a return to Raitt’s roots. It was her first sober album and first Capitol Records release, reaching number one on the U.S. album chart and selling over five million copies in the U.S. It marked the debut of her enduring rhythm section with Ricky Fataar and James 'Hutch' Hutchinson.

Darkness on the Edge of Town is a 1978 rock record by Bruce Springsteen, recorded live with the E Street Band in New York City between June 1977 and March 1978. It follows a legal settlement with manager Mike Appel. Springsteen and Jon Landau produced it; Steven Van Zandt assisted on arrangements. The album rejects the layered ‘Wall of Sound’ of Born to Run for a rawer hard rock approach. Its lyrics focus on ill-fortuned people who fight back against overwhelming odds. Recording was hindered by carpeted floors at the Record Plant that muffled resonance. The band moved quickly between songs, often recording them shortly after Springsteen wrote them.
